Ministry of Labour and Employment, GoB called upon a meeting to review and build a future strategic plan to Eliminate Child Labour from Keraniganj Informal Apparel Sector. The meeting was presided by Md. Towfiqul Arif, Additional Secretary, Labour Wing, Ministry of Labour and Employment, GoB where different sectional officers from ministry and Department of Inspection for the Factories and Establishment was also present. The AC Land of Keraniganj Upazila was also participated in behalf of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Keraniganj.
During the meeting Mahmudul Hasan Khan, Deputy Director, Program of Bangladesh Labour Foundation was presented the work and result so far achieved on the basis of Plan of Action. There were several challenges identified which BLF called for future priority from the Government.
During his speech, Mr. Towfiqul Arif mentioned that the Government of Bangladesh has taken this initiative and keen to see the Local Apparel in Keraniganj Child Labour FREE. He appreciated the work of BLF and gave instructions to the officials of the Ministry and Departments to provide all necessary support for making a model of sector based child labour free approach which can be replicate to other sector easily. He also mentioned the Government is trying to provide fund by taking a project for this perocess.
Department of Inspection for the Factories and Establishments (DIFE) along with Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) will submit a revised NPA on the basis of experience and lesson from the field.
The meeting ends with a slogan – together we achieve the goal to eliminate and rehabilitate the child labour of Keraniganj Informal Apparel Sector.
